‘Friends’ Actress Vijayalakshmi Hospitalized; Seeks Help From Film Industry

Actress Vijayalakshmi has been hospitalized in Bengaluru due to high blood pressure. According to her family, she is in the ICU ward of Mallya Hospital where treatment is going on.

Talking to media, Vijayalakshmi’s sister Usha Devi said, “My sister has been admitted in ICU ward following a rise in blood pressure. She is under treatment. My mother was hospitalized last month and we have already spent all our money for her treatment. We are in financial trouble now. We have to spend for Vijayalakshmi’s treatment. We seek help from the film industry.”

Vijayalakshmi has been an actor in films and TV serials for over two decades now. She began her career with the 1996 Kannada film Nagamandala, starring opposite Prakash Raj. She played actor Vijay’s sister in the movie Friends in 2001. She has acted nearly in 40 films, mostly in Kannada. In 2006, she attempted suicide when an assistant director stalked her. She underwent a tough phase after her father died that same year. Later, she got engaged to the Kannada actor Srujan Lokesh following a three year relationship. However, their marriage was called off due to unknown reasons. She was born in Chennai and studied in Bengaluru.

In an interview, she reportedly said that differences had cropped up between her and Srujan because people surrounding him had their inhibitions and were not welcoming of her. She said she should have spoken at that time without letting silence take ground. But because he was now married and had a son, she didn’t want to talk about it anymore.

In 2017, she made her comeback with the movie Boss Engira Baskaran, starring Arya, Nayanthara. She began acting in supporting roles in films like Kalakkappu, Thillalangadi, Thambikottai, and few TV serials including Nandhini. She was last seen in the movie Meesaya Murukku, as the protagonist Adhi’s mother.
