Game Of Thrones Is The Most Pirated TV Show Of 2017

The seventh season of Game Of Thrones was out this year, and was subjected to a number of episode leaks before the actual airing of the show. Unsurprisingly, the TV show was the most pirated series this year.

According to Esquire magazine, TorrentFreak, a website that covers file-sharing and piracy, released its annual list of the most torrented TV shows of the year. The show also has one of the best ratings. According to the New York Times, the season seven finale ended up breaking records for the HBO show with 12.1 million viewers watching it on television.

When the show began in July this year, HBO was suddenly served with leaks after hackers successfully breached their servers. Soon enough,  Episode 4 “The Spoils of War” of the ongoing seventh season was leaked online, originating from Hotstar, an Indian streaming service. Later, the HBO hackers calling themselves “Mr Smith” leaked the climax of the season’s final episode. The hacking group reportedly stole approximately 1.5 terabytes of data from HBO, and even left a ransom note.

The Walking Dead, The Big Bang Theory, Sherlock, Suits were some of the other shows that were pirated this year.
