Unlike the usual gangster movies in Tamil cinema, Gangs Of Madras is said to be based on a real life incident of a female gangster in Chennai. The teaser of the film was unveiled on Wednesday.

The one-and-a-half minute teaser featured many gangsters like Daniel Balaji who are fighting for some cause. Sai Priyanka Ruth plays the lead as a gangster who tries to kill other gangsters for something. It could to be a revenge drama going by her dialogue, “Enn pasikku innoruthanga sapda mudiyadhu. Enaku edhavadhu na naa dhaa kekanum, kepen (No one can eat my food for me. If I need something I should ask, I will ask).” The film might also deal with narcotics as some scenes show the packaging of drugs.
Directed by CV Kumar of Maayavan fame, the film stars Daniel Balaji, Kalaiarasan, Aadukalam Naren and Bagavathi Perumal in pivotal roles. Priyanka Ruth, who had supporting roles in films like Metro and Enakku Vaaitha Adimaigal Kadavul by director Velu Prabhakaran, plays the role of an antagonist for the first time in his career.
Talking about making a gangster movie, director Kumar told Deccan Chronicle, “A report in a newspaper about how Chennai is becoming a hub for narcotics in south India was the inspiration for this movie. I came across a woman in the scheme of things, which I felt was something new. I decided to make a film with this in mind and improvised adding my own imagination to it.”
“Gangs of Madras is the story of a girl who accidentally gets caught in a gangster group and how later it becomes her way of life. I did a lot of research before embarking on my journey. It is an action revenge drama shot stylishly and will be a new experience for audiences,” he added about the plot.
Produced by CV Kumar under the banner Thirukumaran Entertainment, the film has music composed by Hari Dafusia, and BGM by Shyamalangan under the supervision of ace composer Santhosh Narayanan. Cinematography is by Karthick K Thillai. The film is expected to release this summer.
