Gayathri Raghuram Claims BJP Cadre Spread Fake News About Her

Actor and choreographer Gayathri Raghuram has claimed that people in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) circulated the false news that said that she was caught for drunk driving.

In an interview to a news channel, the actress who is also a party secretary for arts in Tamil Nadu said that there are many people in the party who dislike her growth within the party, and said she was threatened too. She believes they dislike her because of her innovative ideas said, “This is not a new thing, but something that is happening for long. They try to put me down. I cannot mention their names because I don’t have solid evidence. But I heard that few people in the party had bribed a reporter to write fake news about me.”

She also added, “If this is for my post, then I don’t need such a post in the party. I need a simple and peaceful life rather than being involved in dirty inter-party politics. Other than these small issues, I have huge respect for BJP.”

Earlier, the actress in a live video, explained what had happened the night she was allegedly caught drunk driving, She speculated that the fake-news was circulated by some BJP cadres.

Further, in a series of tweets today, Gayathri called out BJP state leader Dr Tamizhisai Soundarajan who said Gayatri had been removed from the party.

 

On Sunday, reports said that Gayathri Raguram was charged under Section 185 (driving by a drunken person or by a person under the influence of drugs) of the Motor Vehicles Act, by Abhiramapuram Traffic Control Police on Saturday night.

However, Gayathri has denied the allegations made against her through a series of tweets. She said this was fake news being spread by a reporter who was probably caught drunk and driving, and that others are using it to hide their own actions. She also said she was driving back after dropping a colleague home after shoot.

In her next tweet, Gayathri said she was stopped by police, but not for drunk driving.

Actor Kaajal Pasupathi, the colleague who Gayathri said she dropped home, also tweeted in her support, responding to Gayathri’s tweet saying, “Media is constantly targeting me. I don’t know why.”

Kaajal said that this was fake news and she was with Gayathri during the incident. She also added that Gayathri was not well that night.
