Gold, Satyameva Jayate & Geetha Govindam Are The August 15 Releases

Frantic promotions have started for the films that are releasing this Independence Day. August 15 will see the release of three major films – while Gold is a sports period drama, Satyameva Jayate is based on vigilante justice and Geetha Govindam is a romantic comedy.

Satyameva Jayate

A vigilante action thriller directed by Milap Zaveri, the film stars John Abraham in the lead, along with Manoj Bajpayee, Amruta Khanvilkar, Aisha Sharma and Tota Roy Chowdhury in pivotal roles. The film tackles current issues like mob lynchings, corruption, women’s safety.

In a recent interview, John said, “Right from Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017) to Raazi and even Parmanu, the past few months have seen releases that gave out important messages about our country. But of late, we haven’t made a patriotic film with whistle-worthy moments in it. So, this film talks about corruption, molestation and other issues, but in a commercial way.”

Recently, a police case was registered against the makers of the film by BJP Minority Morcha general secretary Syed Ali Jaffry with the Dabeerpura police. The complaint stated that the film is allegedly offending the religious sentiments of the group under section 295 (A) of Indian Penal Code.

The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani, and Nikkhil Advani,

Gold

Directed by Reema Katgi, the film is set in 1946. Akshay Kumar plays hockey player Tapan Das who wants to win the Olympics gold for an Independent India and not for the British India.

The film also features Mouni Roy, Vineet Kumar Singh, Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor and Sunny Kaushal. The story revolves around the struggles Tapan Das and his team face while trying to win Independent India’s first gold medal in hockey.

The film is, however, not a biopic but a fictional story. High on patriotism and with dialogues like “Our team will defeat the British in London and avenge 200 years of subjugation” or “In our home, we begin our day with Inquilab Zindabad first and then breakfast”, the film is sure to play to the nationalistic sentiments of the country.

Geetha Govindam

This is Vijay Devarakonda’s first major release after the success of Arjun Reddy. He was last seen in a supporting role in the Savitri biopic Mahanati. Geetha Govindam is a romantic comedy, with Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead.

Taking about the film, the film’s director Parasuram told Deccan Chronicle, “Two people with different ideologies meet and fall in love, but because of their egos, they face some complications. How they come out of their problems is narrated in an entertaining way.”

The film’s song, ‘Inkem Inkem Inkem Kaavaale’, sung by Sid Sriram and composed by Gopi Sunder has been trending for more than two weeks now.
