Govinda Granted Bail In 20-Year-Old Defamation Case

Actor Govinda has been granted temporary relief by the Bombay High Court by granting him bail on a 20-year-old defamation case. Justice Sadhana Jadhav granted the transit bail at a surety of Rs 25,000 for a period of four weeks. The actor has been asked to appear before the Jharkand court on March 6.

The ruling pertains to a case filed in 1997. A lawyer from Pakhur district of Bihar (now, Jharkand) had filed for a criminal case against Govinda for defaming Bihar and UP over the lyrics in the song ‘Ek chumma tu mujhko udhar de de’ in film Chhote Sarkar.

Govinda’s counsel argued that the song was shot in Mumbai and hence, the HC in Mumbai had the jurisdiction in the case. The counsel also argued that the personal liberty and freedom of Govinda was at stake as the case is still pending in a magistrate’s court at Pakur in Jharkhand.

However, the actor would have to appear in front of the court on March 6 to seek a regular bail over there.
