Half Girlfriend to Release on 19 May, 2017

Arjun Kapoor, Akshay Kumar

Filmmaker Mohit Suri’s upcoming film Half Girlfriend starring Shraddha Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor, has been locked for release on 19 May, next year.  Co-produced by Chetan Bhagat, Half Girlfriend is an adaptation of the author’s novel of the same name.

Arjun Kappor was the lead actor in 2 States, which was also an adaptation of Bhagat’s book 2 States: The Story of My Marriage. Many of the film adaptations which were based on Chetan Bhagat’s books have been successful hits in Bollywood: his 3 Mistakes of My Life was made into Kai Po Che, the debut film of Sushant Singh Rajput; One Night at the Call Centre was made into the Salman Khan-starrer, Hello; Rajkumar Hirani’s 2009 blockbuster starring Aamir Khan 3 Idiots was partially adapted from Bhagat’s book, 5 Point Someone.

5 Point Someone ran into controversy when Bhagat claimed that although 70 % of the film was based on his book his name was mentioned only in the closing credits. The book is set in an IIT and portrays the lives of three young men studying in it, the film does not focus on any particular institution, but rather questions the working of the education system – especially engineering colleges.

Half Girlfriend is produced by Balaji Motion pictures, and Arjun Kapooor and Shraddha Kapoor play the roles of Madhav Jha and Riya Somani. Rhea Chakraborty plays the role of Samantha Myers, which Amy Jackson was reported as playing, initially. The music for the film is composed by Rishi Rich, an English-Indian independent music artist.
