Hans Zimmer spoke about AR Rahman to Ashanti Omkar of BBC at the recently held Zurich Film Festival. Zimmer, who was honoured at the event with a Lifetime Achievement Award, also revealed several interesting anecdotes about the ‘Mozart of Madras’. Calling AR Rahman his strongest connection to India, he said, “I don’t think I even need to say that he is talented, I think we all know that he is. He’s my strongest connection to India.”. He also talked about the time he spent with ARR when they worked on a project together. “I had this idea a few years back, to reinvent the music of the Oscars. It was one of the worst ideas I’ve ever had (laughs). But I got all my friends, like I got AR to come and play in the orchestra. I love him.”

Also interesting is the fact that Rahman works out of Zimmer’s studio when he visits the USA. Zimmer said, “When he first came to Los Angeles, he had his studio in mine, which was like a safe haven for him, I think. And yes, he owes me too; so when I come to India, I park my studio in his for a while (chuckles), and we do a bit of music together. To me, he’s a wonderful man, an extraordinary talent. He is everything you hope a composer would be.”
Zimmer would also love to collaborate with Rahman and it may happen sometime as the duo has already ‘sort of talked about it’.
