Actress Harshika Poonacha, known for starring in Kannada movies such as 5 Idiots, and Murali Meets Meera, will make her Tamil debut shortly. The actress has been signed on to star in actor Jai’s upcoming film with director Hashim Marikar. The road thriller has Harshika play a ‘lively girl’ called Bhanu. Filming will begin in January 2017.
In an interview with ToI, Poonacha said: “I’ve been getting a few Tamil film offers for a while, and was particular about doing something noteworthy. In the film, I play Bhanu, a very lively girl.”
Harshika made her acting debut at the age of 18 with Kannada film PUC. She followed it up with films like Ponnamma, her Telugu debut Edukundavalada Venkataramana Antaru Bagundali, and a small role in Shivrajkumar’s Thamassu, for which she won Karnataka State Award For Best Supporting Actress. In her eight-year-long film career, she has been a part of more than twenty films. At present, she is filming for the Kannada films Meetru, Crazy Krishna and the Telugu movie Panipuri.
Jai is at present awaiting the release of Chennai 600028: II Innings, which has him reuniting with his Chennai 600028 co-stars Shiva, Vijayalakshmi and director Ahathiyan. The film will release shortly.
