Here’s A Look At Sehmat, Alia Bhatt’s Character In Raazi

With Raazi‘s trailer releasing on April 10 (Tuesday), a film headlined by Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, a teaser was released recently giving the audience a glimpse into this drama set in the 70’s Kashmir. Playing Sehmat, a young Kashmiri girl, Alia Bhatt plays a spy who marries a Pakistani officer (played by Vicky Kaushal) during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971.

The teaser has Sehmat answering a call about a meeting she has scheduled, seeking some information as well. Dressed in a burqa, Sehmat has her guards up, ensuring no one listens in on her conversation.

The makers are also releasing images of the different shades of Sehmat’s character. The images focus on her role as a daughter, with her father lovingly kissing her on the forehead, and as a wife.

Based on writer Harinder Sikka’s novel Calling Sehmat, the film, much like the book, will focus on how Sehmat single-handedly saved the lives of many Indian soldiers through her courage and wit. Sikka, a former Indian Navy officer, came across Sehmat’s story (whose name he changed) when he went to Kargil during the 1999 war to write media articles on the Army’s alleged intelligence failure there. The writer, in several interviews in the past, has said that it took him eight years to fictionalise her story and knit everything into a cohesive narrative.

The film has mostly been shot in Patiala and Kashmir. Karan Johar produces the project through his Dharma Productions.
