According to a report in India Today, a source was quoted saying that the director was set to remake the film for a prominent production house in Hindi. “With Hindi filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, and critics there raving about the film, Bollywood studios were keen on getting Thiagarajan Kumararaja to remake the film in Hindi. He will be making the film for one of the top production houses, and this is going to be his next project. The film will have top Bollywood stars in its cast, as they are keen to be part of the project,” the source said.

Marking Thiagaraja Kumararaja’s return to direction eight years after his National Award-winning film Aaranya Kandam, Super Deluxe featured an ensemble cast comprising Vijay Sethupati, Ramya Krishnan, Fahadh Faasil, Samantha Akkineni and Mysskin.

In the movie, the unorthodox characterisations like Vijay Sethupathi who played a trans woman and Ramya Krishnan who played a former adult film actress made the viewers sit-up and take notice. The movie, that released last month, went on to become a success. The writing team comprised of four directors – Nalan Kumarasamy, Neelan K Sekar, Thiagarajan Kumararaja and Mysskin.

Upon its release, the film received considerable attention from the north after Bollywood filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane were all praise for the movie. Anurag Kashyap, who was initially offered a chance to work on the movie by becoming part of the writing team, regretted that he had missed out a golden opportunity.

Bollywood is currently on a remake spree – the latest one being Aamir Khan’s Forrest Gump adaptation. And the gap between North and South seems to be bridging like never before with Amitabh Bachchan working in SJ Surya’s Uyarntha Manithan and a rumoured cameo by Shah Rukh Khan in #Thalapathy63

All these add to the remake prospects of the film.
