‘Home Alone’ Actor John Heard Dies

John Heard, best known for his role as Peter McAllister in the Home Alone series of films, was found dead at a hotel in Palo Alto, California. He was 72.

Heard was said to be recuperating at the hotel after undergoing a surgery earlier this week.

Born in Washington, Heard had an affinity for acting that eventually led to a stint in the theatre. He followed this with roles in films such as The Cat People, Mind Walk and Martin Scorsese’s After Hours.

Though he had an illustrious acting career, he would most often be referred to as the Home Alone dad, a stirring reminder that none of his other roles left as much a mark on the audience as that of his role in the comedy film.

Heard was nominated for an Emmy for his work in The Sopranos. He won two Obie Awards early on in his theatre career for his performance as male lead in Othello, Split and GR Point.

He is survived by three children – John Matthew Heard Jr., Annika Heard and Max Heard.
