Horror Unfolds In A Middle-Class Household In Tisca Chopra’s ‘Chutney’

Two middle-class women’s chai-pakoda session transforms into a dark nightmarish tale in Chutney, a 15-minute short film – the latest from the fold of LargeShortFilms, a Youtube platform. The film, directed by Jyoti Kapur Das, stars Tisca Chopra, almost unrecognisable in a plain get-up, Rasika Dugal and Adil Hussain.

The plot is simple, and the plot twists, brilliant. Chopra plays an ordinary housewife from Ghaziabad. When she realises that her husband (Adil Hussain) is having an affair, she invites his girlfriend (Rasika Dugal) to her house for a pakora-chutney meal. It all begins when Dugal compliments Chopra for the chutney, which, according to Chopra, is made of home-grown ingredients. Chopra begins to tell Dugal the story of an exceptional cook, a young man, who used to live in their house long ago.

Chopra skillfully brings out the undertones of violence and horror in her story. There is no dull moment in the film, and the climax is a well built-up cliffhanger.

Tisca Chopra has produced the film, which is co-written by her along with Das and Avaneesh Mishra.
