Ilaiyaraaja was the guest of honour at the convocation of LV Prasad Film and TV Academy recently. And, he came armed with a lovely gift for the fresh graduates: an offer to score music for their short films. For free. “Nammellam ore kuttaila irukka mattai. We have to help each other. Form groups and make a 10-minute short film. I will score the music for all of them on the spot.”
Director Adoor Gopalakrishnan, who was the chief guest for the function, admitted that he was jealous of the students’ good fortune. “I have wanted to work with this maestro for a long time, but I was always told he was…expensive. I could only work on one film with him. I hope you all realise your good fortune.”
