Ilaiyaraaja has sent a legal notice to director Shankar for ‘re-mixing and re-arranging his composition’ without his permission. The song in question – Ooru Vittu Ooru Vandhu from Karakaattakaran – had been re-mixed by Natarajan Sankaran for Kappal. The movie was distributed by Shankar’s S Pictures.
According to Ilaiyaraaja’s publicist, Shankar had claimed to have obtained permission to use the song from Agi Music Pvt Ltd, the company with which Ilaiyaraaja is currently engaged in a legal tussle over copyright. “Agi Music does not hold the copyright over the song. All rights belong to Ilaiyaraaja sir. We will pursue the matter in court if royalty owed to Ilaiyaraaja sir is not paid,” said his manager.
