A petition for an injunction was filed against the release of Billa Pandi on Wednesday by producer A Jamal Sahib in the Virudhunagar district Franchise court. The case will be heard today.
Background
It is said that in 2015, both A Jamal Sahib and KC Prabhat decided to launch a film titled Maruthanda Seemai starring master Mahendran in the lead. When sixty percent of the movie had been filmed, KC Prabhat joined RK Suresh to produce Billa Pandi leaving the other film incomplete. When Sahib, who had invested nearly Rs 80 lakh in the production questioned Prabhat, he’d promised to come back and complete the film. An agreement was signed by both in June 2017.
However, a reminder notice sent to Prabhat when he did not work on the project was returned, following which Sahib put out an announcement in a Tamil local news paper about the agreement with Prabhat.
Talking about the petition filed in court, Manimaran, advocate of Jamal Sahib said, “As he’d neither come in person nor had a talk regarding the completion of the film, we filed a petition seeking an injunction on the film Billa Pandi in civil court. A notice has been sent to the respondent yesterday, but we have not heard anything from them yet.”

Manimaran is optimistic about obtaining an injunction against the release of the film. “The case has been taken up for investigation only when the court accepted the documents. We have produced 15 documents including the agreement copy, registration copy and the proof for the film being in production. The case will be heard today.”
Directed by Raj Sethupathy, Billa Pandi features actor-producer RK Suresh of Thara Thappatai fame and actress Indhuja in the lead. Set in the backdrop of Madurai, it has been made as a tribute to actor Ajith Kumar. The music for the film is composed by Ilayavan. The film also features Chandni Tamilarasan in a pivotal role and comedian Soori and actor Vidharth in cameos. Billa Pandi is scheduled to release this Deepavali.
