Composed by Rochak Kohli and sung by Navraj Hans and Harshdeep Kaur, the song is a revised version of the Bally Sagoo – Malkit Singh song that featured Malaika Arora.

Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To.. marks the coming together of the father-daughter duo of Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor who star as father and daughter in the movie. While the movie is about a lesbian relationship, the trailer of the movie merely hinted at this.

This tone has largely been followed in the new song too. To the uninitiated, the song might come across as just another wedding song with the family members dancing and celebrating. Anil Kapoor’s enthusiasm in these sequences particularly stands out.

Regina Cassandra, who mostly had a blink and miss portion in the trailer has a larger part in the song. Cassandra, who makes her Hindi debut with the movie, is said to play Sonam Kapoor’s love interest. The song shows them dancing together. The songs also depict Sonam Kapoor’s indifference towards the advances of a love-smitten Akshay Oberoi, thus managing to supplement the viewer with information regarding the plot.

Though there have been Bollywood films with lesbian characters, Ek Ladki Ko… might be the first mainstream Bollywood film to look at homosexuality seriously, and talk about its ramifications. The movie is written by Gazal Dhaliwal, a trans woman.

The title of the film is from a song in 1942: A love story, starring Anil Kapoor. Lyrics was by Javed Akhtar, and the song was rendered by Kumar Sanu. It went on to become a classic, and was one of the last compositions of the legendary RD Burman. Vidhu Vinod Chopra who directed 1942: A love story, produces the movie while his sister Shelly Chopra Dhar is the director.

Ek Ladk Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga releases on February 1.
