For a long time now, romance has been missing from Tamil cinema. This thought propelled music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja to produce Pyaar Prema Kadhal, a film that is all about love, like its title.
“My strength as a composer is love songs. There were no recent opportunities for me to compose some. So I created an opportunity through Pyaar Prema Kadhal. The idea was to make a film full of romantic songs. This is that attempt,” he said at the audio launch event of the film.
Elan, who makes his film debut with this project, said that he was lucky to have a producer as invested as Yuvan. The project’s male lead, Harish Kalyan, said that the film has a lot of love. “And a lot of people love the film. That is why the final result is so good. Elan is younger than me, and that is why he has been able to produce such a youthful film.”
Actors Dhanush and Silambarasan turned up for the event in a bid to support Yuvan.
Dhanush said that Yuvan was like family to him. “He gave me and my brother, Selvaraghavan, a much needed boost with his music in Thulluvadho Ilamai. His work was our calling card.”
Love fuels the world, Dhanush said. “It is what makes us all artists. There is nothing in the world without love. Yuvan helped me out of many difficult situations. I will go anywhere for him. This is why I am here.”
Silambarasan said that Yuvan is like a father figure to him. “He takes care of me like I am his son. Yuvan is the sort of person who would wish even his enemies well. This is why all of us are here. We are here because of Yuvan.”
The event had a surprise guest as well. Yuvan may have composed for over 120 movies, but his father – composer Ilaiyaraaja, has never attended any of the audio launch events. “He has always told me that he will not promote me. I told him recently that I was producing a film. And now, he is finally here.”

Ilaiyaraaja said that he was here for Pyaar Prema Kaadhal. “I have come here out of love. Yuvan has produced his first film and he needs my blessing. That is why I am here.”
He also had a request for the upcoming music directors. “Stay away from electronic music. Use real instruments. Only they will change the moods of a person. It will produce uplifting music,” he said.
Sam CS said that he won prizes in school and college by singing the compositions of Yuvan, while Santhosh Narayanan confessed to be a fan of the composer since his Thulluvadho Ilamai days.
Pyaar Prema Kaadhal has Bigg Boss fame Raiza Wilson and Harish Kalyan in lead roles. The film’s official trailer, launched recently, is a patchwork of amusing scenes from the film, designed to alternatively shock the audience and also leave them wanting.
