Jada Pinkett Smith On Tupac Shakur Biopic: “It Is Deeply Hurtful”

Jada Pinkett Smith, who was one of slain rapper Tupac Shakur’s confidantes in the 90’s, has slammed his biopic All Eyez On Me. Smith wrote on Twitter:

The actress then spoke of scenes that didn’t align with the actual events, including scenes where Tupac read her a poem, their final goodbye and an alleged backstage argument.

Jada further added that she had no issues with the actors Demetrius Shipp Jr and Kat Graham, who portray Shakur and Jada respectively. To @KatGraham and @Dshippjr this is no fault of yours. Thank you for bringing so much heart and spirit to your roles.

All Eyez On Me was released on June 16, his birthday. The film has been critically panned, with several critics saying that it wasn’t the biopic that Tupac deserved.

Tupac would’ve been 47 years old had he been alive. Shot by unknown gunmen on 7 September, 1997 in Las Vegas, Tupac succumbed to his injuries six days later. The rapper’s murder in 1996 made headlines all over the world and the whole music industry mourned the loss of this phenomenal talent. Twenty years later, in spite of numerous investigations, nobody knows who killed him.

There is another biopic on the rapper which will be directed by 12 Years A Slave director Steve McQueen. The film will be co-produced by Amaru Entertainment, the company Tupac’s late mother Afeni established to release her son’s posthumous projects, Shakur Estate trustee Tom Whalley, and music documentary makers, Jayson Jackson and White Horse Pictures’ Nigel Sinclair.
