The film is written and directed by filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj and marks his first collaboration with Dhanush.

Jagame Thandhiram’s cast also includes Aishwarya Lekshmi, Kalaiyarasan and Joju George. Jagame Thandhiram is Aishwarya’s second Tamil film after the 2019 Tamil action thriller Action. The film will also feature Scottish actor James Cosmo, who is best known for the hit television series Game Of Thrones, and the 2005 fantasy film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

According to the streaming service, the film narrates the story of Suruli (Dhanush), a nomadic gangster who has to choose between good and evil in a war for what one can truly call home.

In February, Dhanush had said that he hoped for the film’s theatrical release and had written on Twitter, “I am hoping for the theatrical release of Jagame Thandiram like the theatre owners, exhibitors, distributors, cinema lovers and most of all my fans. Fingers crossed.”

However, the film’s teaser, which announced its Netflix release, released in the same month.

Speaking about the film, Karthik said in a statement, “Jagame Thandhiram is my dream film that was made with the ambition of telling a gripping story about a globally prevalent issue through a locally rooted character in a most interesting and entertaining way.”

The film is produced by S Sashikanth under his YNot Studios banner along with Reliance Entertainment. Santhosh Narayanan has composed the film’s music.

According to Netflix, Jagame Thandhiram will be available in multiple languages.
