Actor Jai, who was last seen in the action comedy Jarugandi, will reportedly play a cameo in Simbu’s upcoming film Maanaadu, directed by Venkat Prabhu. Pitched as a political entertainer, the film is produced by V House Productions.
An official confirmation regarding his cameo role is yet to be made. The nature of his character in the film is also not known. Jai has previously played cameo roles in Simbu’s Vaalu and Idhu Namma Aalu.
Meanwhile, Simbu who was last seen in Sundar C’s directorial Vandha Rajavathaan Varuven, is in Mauritius to train in martial arts for the film.
Since the film was announced, speculations about its cast and crew have been making rounds. Recently, it was said that Raashi Khanna may play the female lead. Some reports say that Keerthy Suresh is the actor being considered, and Arjun Sarja is the antagonist. A confirmation regarding this is also awaited.
A spokesperson for the director told Silverscreen, “As of now the director is busy with the releases of RK Nagar and Party. So work on Maanadu’s production has not proceeded any further. Any update on this film will happen only after the release of Venkat Prabhu’s other films that have been scheduled.”
About Maanadu, Venkat Prabhu said in a Firstpost interview, “It’s a long pending project. We have been talking about a possible collaboration for a long time now, but suddenly STR called me one day. I narrated his character along with the outline of the script. STR liked the idea and gave a nod. The movie will come as a different experience for STR. His fans will find his character in the film exciting.”
Venkat Prabhu also said that he was considering a summer release. “As a team, I think we will be able to pull it off and release our film for summer 2019.”
On the work front, Jai is awaiting the release of much delayed rom-com Party directed by Venkat Prabhu. He also has Neeya 2 directed by L Suresh, and Karuppar Nagaram. The actor is making his Malayalam debut with Madhura Raja, staring alongside Mammootty.
