Jana Gana Mana/JGM is the title of the upcoming pan-Indian film led by Telugu actor Vijay Deverakonda and directed by Puri Jagannadh. The announcement was made with the release of the title poster at an event in Mumbai on Tuesday.
The film is scheduled for release on August 3, 2023.
Aside from direction, Puri Jagannadh will also be writing the screenplay and dialogues of JGM. The film will mark the second collaboration of the director with Deverakonda.
The actor and filmmaker are currently working on a sports drama titled Liger, which is scheduled to hit the big screens on August 25. Hindi actor Ananya Panday will be making her Telugu debut with Liger.
Like JGM, Liger is also an action entertainer. Both films are set to have a pan-Indian release in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages.
The press release also notes that the shooting for JGM will commence in April. The film is set to be shot across multiple international locations.
While details on the rest of the cast and technical crew are yet to be officially revealed, it was earlier reported that Hindi actor Janhvi Kapoor will be starring opposite Deverakonda. If so, it will mark her debut in the Telugu film industry.
Jana Gana Mana/JGM is touted to be a story that will provide a “contemporary take” on the “gruesome murders, rape cases, and crimes” that took place in India, in the last few years. All the characters in the film are expected to speak in their native language, without any subtitles or disclaimers.
The statement from the film’s team adds that JGM will “will tap into the conscience of every Indian.”
