Actress Janani Iyer has joined the cast of Balloon, starring Jai and Anjali. The horror film, directed by debutant Sinish will have two story lines – one set in 1989 and the other set in the present day. Speaking to Silverscreen, Janani revealed that she plays a character named, Shenbagavalli. Her character will be seen with Jai in the 80’s portions of the film. “Though I cannot reveal much, I think it would be safe to say that i would have a retro look, something on the lines of Sridevi from Moondram Pirai.” said Janani.
Janani has a pivotal role in the project.”I always ask for the complete script before signing a film, even after the director explains the story and the character. So in this film, I play a very pivotal role. I am very choosy when it comes to the films I do, and I kept asking Sinish many questions about the film. I feared if that would seem irritating, but I think he liked the fact that I am curious about the film.”
Janani is currently shooting for the film Ultaa with Actors Karunakaran and Daniel Balaji. “Ultaa is Final Desination gone funny. My character can be seen throughout the film, and though my character is not funny, the circumstances and scenes in the film are funny.”

Janani has also been cast in director Rohin Venkatesan’s film. In the CV Kumar production, Janani plays the role of a journalist opposite Actor Kalaiyarasan. The talkie portions of the project have been completed.
Balloon is produced by TN Arun Balaji and Kandasamy Nandhakumar of 70 MM Films, along with stunt choreographer-turned-actor Dhilip Subbarayan of Farmer’s Master Plan Production. The technical crew includes cinematographer R Saravanan, editor Ruben, stunt choreographer Dhilip Subbarayan, dance choreographer Sherif, costume designer NJ Sathya, music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja and art director Shakthi Venkataraj.
