Poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar filed a defamation case against actor Kangana Ranaut, reported ANI on Tuesday. The hearing has been scheduled for December 3.
According to the report, Akhtar filed the case against the actor over her remarks during an interview with a news channel about her feud with actor Hrithik Roshan. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the complaint stated that Ranaut dragged Akhtar’s name while referring to a “coterie” existing in the Hindi film industry, following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June. Akhtar filed the case before the metropolitan magistrate at Andheri in Mumbai alleging that Ranaut’s comments have damaged his reputation.
Earlier, in an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Akhtar’s wife Shabana Azmi had said: “Kangana has started believing in her own myth. She says she taught feminism to the film industry, she taught it nationalism. I’m glad she spelled that out because nobody else had noticed! I think she fears the day when she will no longer be in the headlines and so has to keep making outrageous statements to stay in the news. Poor girl, why doesn’t she just do what she is best at, which is acting.”
Replying to Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut’s tweet addressing the news of the defamation suit against her, Ranaut wrote: “Ek thi sherni… aur bhediyon ka jhund (there once was a lioness… and a pack of wolves)”

Meanwhile, in a separate case, the Mumbai Police on Tuesday issued a notice to Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel to appear before them for allegedly promoting enmity between communities through their remarks. The two are scheduled to appear before the investigation officer on November 10.
The actor is in her hometown Manali, attending the wedding functions of her brother.
