It’s interesting how upon the release of Rangasthalam, despite being a blockbuster, the song Jigelu Rani’s picturisation received a mixed response. Little did we know then that it would take the internet to set it right and make things different. When the video of the song was finally put up online, it clocked a phenomenal 2 million views within 12 hours!
While the film has become a blockbuster now with record collections in Telugu, and even regional cinema, the song itself, sung by well-known folk singers Rela Kumar and Ghanta Venkata Lakshmi, was supposed to be a highlight of the film. Mainly because it brought to life the renowned recording dance tradition of Andhra onto the big screen.
Pooja Hegde starred in the song that saw her shake a leg with Ram Charan with many opining that she brought to life the recording dance scene from the Godavari districts. However, a few others felt she was too sophisticated to play the part. Well, either way, Jani master’s choreography and Devi Sri Prasad’s composition definitely played a big part in bringing out a rustic village full of lusty men being lured by a Jigelu Rani, who knows how to grab attention.
