Jo & Jo, the upcoming Malayalam film starring actors Mathew Thomas, Nikhila Vimal and Naslen, will be a humorous young adult family drama, says its director Arun D Jose. The film went on floors on Thursday.
The title poster was released on social media that same day by actors like Prithviraj Sukumaran, Vineeth Sreenivasan and Dulquer Salmaan.
The film is produced by Imagin Cinemas and Signature Studios. Arun, who makes his directorial debut with Jo & Jo, has also co-written the film’s screenplay with Raveesh Nath.
Speaking to Silverscreen India, the debutant filmmaker said, “Jo & Jo is a feel-good film that the audience will be able to connect with. It will discuss the themes of family and friendship, and the main characters in the film are youngsters.”
“In recent times, we have not seen many feel-good films in Malayalam. Hence, I decided to make a film that can be enjoyed by the family audience and youngsters as well,” he added.
Arun further said that music plays a significant role in the film and Govind Vasantha is on board as the composer. He also added that since the film has a young vibe, he decided to work with a primarily young crew, most of whom are his own friends.
“I had the story thread for Jo & Jo in mind for a long time. But, all these years, I was busy working on various other films as an associate director and did not get the time to begin this project. It was only last year, during the first Covid-19 lockdown, that I was able to finish the script,” said the filmmaker.

Arun, who has been in the Malayalam film industry for the last 12 years has worked on films like Prakashan Parakkatte, 19 (1)(a), Love Action Drama, and Oru Vadakkan Selfie, among several others.
Jo & Jo’s production commenced on Thursday in Koothattukulam in Ernakulam district. Arun noted that the team is planning to shoot in parts of Idukki, Ernakulam, and Kottayam. “We have created a bio bubble and will adhere to the Covid-19 protocols issued by the government to ensure utmost safety. If everything goes according to plan, we will be able to finish the shoot in a single schedule of around 30-35 days.”
