Malayalam actor Joju George joined the set of director Karthik Subbaraj’s ongoing film with Dhanush in London on Friday. In a note posted on social media, Y Not Studios, the producer of the film, welcomed the actor onboard.
Joju, who made his debut in the Malayalam film industry as a junior artiste in the early 2000s, won a Special Mention (Jury) at the 2018 National Film Awards and Kerala State Film Awards for his performance in M Padmakumar’s Joseph. He played a retired police officer in Joseph, a crime-drama that became a sleeper hit in Kerala.
Recently, Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s Chola, in which Joju played one of the three protagonists, was screened at Venice International Film Festival’s Orizzonti section, which is dedicated to films that represent the latest aesthetic and expressive trends in international cinema. Joju attended the screening along with his fellow cast members and Sasidharan. The actor’s recent mainstream Malayalam release Porinju Mariyam Jose, directed by Joshiy, is having a good run at the box-office.
He will next be seen in a number of films such as Kamal KM’s Pada and Manju Warrier’s Prathi Poovan Kozhi. Joju, who has produced films such as Charlie (2015) and Udaharanam Sujatha (2017) also co-produced Chola.
Karthik Subbaraj’s last film Petta, which had Rajinikanth playing the protagonist, was a blockbuster. The untitled project with Dhanush will entirely be shot in the United Kingdom. The film is, reportedly, a gangster flick. Earlier, it was reported that Karthik Subbaraj had approached Hollywood star Al Pacino to play a major role in the film. Eventually, it was announced that Game of Thrones star James Cosmo would play that role. Malayalam star Aishwarya Lekshmi plays the female lead in the film, which will have music by Santhosh Narayanan and cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna. This is Aishwarya Lekshmi’s second Tamil film, after Sunder C’s film with Vishal, in which she plays one of the two female leads.
