Kabbadi Players Starring In Suseenthiran’s ‘Kennedy Club’ Win Tournament

The women Kabbadi players who have acted in director Suseenthiran’s upcoming Kennedy Club won the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Trophy at this year’s Kabbadi tournament. They were awarded a cash prize of Rs 12 lakh recently.

Teams representing different districts in the state compete against each other for the Kabbadi tournament every year. The final winners are honored with a trophy and a cash award. This year, the celebrated and famous Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu team won the tournament. Seven players from this team star in Suseenthiran’s Kennedy Club. The film is about the women’s team, and live Kabbadi matches from across the country have been shot to add more life to the film.

Starring Samuthirakani, Sasikumar and Bharathiraja in the lead, the shoot for Kennedy Club is in the final stages. It has been filmed across Tamil Nadu, including Salem, Erode, Madurai, Kanyakumari and Coimbatore, and also Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

At the locations where matches happened live, shoot was carried out with a four-camera setup to also film the huge crowd. This took team about three days to put together.

Talking about the current schedule, the filmmakers said in a press statement, “Right now, we have reached Maharashtra for the final leg of shooting; we need to travel 180 kms to reach Isapur where a grand set of a Kabbadi ground that can accommodate 25,000 spectators has been erected. Following this, we are planning to shoot live matches in Punjab-Haryana. It is noteworthy that around 600 women’s Kabbadi teams are present in this part of our country.”

The statement further said that actor Sasikumar and Bharathiraja will shoot extensive parts of their scenes of the final match at the newly erected sets. The same premises will be used for the scenes involving the training.

The film features Soori, Munishkanth, newcomer Meenakshi, Gayathri, Sowmya, Smirthi and Soundarya in important roles. Produced by Thai Saravanan for Nallusamy Pictures, the music for the film is composed by D Imman. RB Gurudev is handling cinematography.

The Chinese theatrical rights for Kennedy Club was sold to a local distribution house in China for Rs 2 crore. The film has been scheduled for release on Tamil New Year’s Day (April 14, 2019).
