Kalabhavan Mani’s Case Shut Due To Lack Of Evidence; Family To Move Court

Almost a year after the death of Malayalam actor Kalabhavan Mani, the inquiry that was launched into circumstances surrounding his death, has yielded no results. The special team that probed the case, following allegations of foul-play made by the actor’s family, has ceased work, citing lack of evidence. Soon after Mani’s death, his family had alleged that the actor was poisoned at his residence in Chalakkudy.

SP Unniraja, who was heading the Special Investigation Team, was later shifted to Perumbavoor to attend to the Jisha murder case. The team is now currently headed by SP Shahul Hameed. “In July last year, the state government had asked the CBI to take over the case. But, the central agency has not yet responded to the request. We have almost stopped the investigation due to want of any credible evidence,” Hameed is quoted as saying in this Deccan Chronicle report.

The Regional Testing Lab in Kakkanad, Kochi had found Chlorpyrifos, a deadly pesticide, in the 45-year-old actor’s body, along with methanol. Later, the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Hyderabad had verified the viscera samples as only highly toxic methanol which is commonly found in illegally made country liquor.

The actor’s brother, RLV Ramakrishnan, though, has said that the family would move the court for further probe.
