Kamal Haasan Alleges TTV Dhinakaran’s RK Nagar By-Election Win Was ‘Purchased’

Kamal Haasan Announces The Launch Of Maiyam - Whistleblower App On His Birthday

Kamal Haasan recently wrote an article for the Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan, alleging that TTV Dhinakaran may have won the RK Nagar by-polls by buying votes. In the article, Haasan wrote that the by-election was a “stain” on the current state of democracy in the State.

“RK Nagar by-polls is a big stain on Tamil Nadu politics; it is a big stain on Indian democracy. I won’t call this purchased win even a scam… this is a daylight crime,” he wrote.

According to a PTI report, Dhinakaran lashed out at Haasan saying that the actor couldn’t digest the fact that the RK Nagar MLA could win. “Whether you accept or not, people of RK Nagar have voted for me. Don’t hurt those lovable people (by making such allegations),” Dhinakaran responded.

He further questioned Haasan’s own political ambitions, saying that such a man may not be able to survive politics. “Politics is not some scripted movie where one can mouth dialogues written by someone else,” he added.

Dhinakaran was sworn-in as a member of the 15th Assembly by Speaker P Dhanapal in his (Speaker’s) office on December 29, 2017. He won the RK Nagar bypoll on 24 December by a margin of over 40,000 votes, defeating AIADMKs’ E Madhusudanan and DMK candidate N Maruthu Ganesh, becoming the first Independent candidate to win from RK Nagar.
