When Bigg Boss Tamil was launched in 2017, the producers reportedly approached Kamal because they thought his knowledge about a range topics made him a favourable host. He had appeared as guest on several shows and interviews before Bigg Boss, but was known for staying away from endorsing brands, major shows or political parties. He made his TV debut with this show, and the episodes and his speeches in the first two seasons went on to pave way for his political entry months later.

Kamal Haasan’s party Makkal Needhi Maiam contested the Lok Sabha elections from all thirty nine seats in Tamil Nadu this year. The bypolls get over on May 18, and results will be announced on May 23. In a report by The Hindu, sources close to the actor say he will finish his film and television projects soon. He has director Shankar’s Indian 2 in the pipeline, but the status of the project is unknown. His production house Raaj Kamal Film International will also continue to remain active.
