Kamal Haasan May Host ‘Big Boss’ In Tamil

Kamal Haasan might host the Tamil version of Bigg Boss, a hit reality television format, according to a report in the Indian Express. If the show goes through, it will be Kamal’s big television debut, apart from the many times he has appeared as a guest on interviews and talk shows.

Bigg Boss is a reality format, based on the Netherlands/UK television show Big Brother. A group of people live in close confines within a house, and each episode traces the trials and tribulations the residents face. At the end of a week, residents can nominate two people for eviction, followed by a public vote to select the candidate for eviction. The show goes on till there is one winner still left in the house. 

Big Boss has been hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, and others in Hindi, and Sudeep in the Kannada version. The Indian Express story says that Kamal’s knowledge and opinions across a range of topics make him a highly favourable host, in the eyes of the show’s producers. Kamal is yet to officially confirm the news.

Till very recently, Kamal Haasan had not endorsed any brands or political parties, and had stayed away from major TV shows and formats. 2015 saw Kamal’s first celebrity endorsement, of the Pothy’s brand, in a campaign that was praised by many. It was also reported that Kamal Haasan donated his remuneration for the endorsement, Rs 16 Crores, to a non profit trust – Petraalthaan Pillaya – which works with children living with HIV.

Meanwhile, shooting for Kamal Haasan’s Sabaash Naidu, a spin-off of the character Balram Naidu from Dasavatharam, is on indefinite pause as he is recovering from a leg injury. His Vishwaroopam 2 is also awaiting clearance for release.
