According to a source quoted in an NDTV report, “Amiya is just out of college. As of now, it looks like she wants to explore different things, like most bright people do. She is very helpful to us, she knows the subject, she knows all the cricketers and she has access to all of them. She is also very willing to learn.”

Ranveer Singh essays the role of Kapil Dev in the movie. The source also added that the cricketer was closely involved with the project. Interestingly, Amiya Dev is not the only crew member related to a member of the original team to work on the movie. Chirag Patil will portray his father Sandip Patil in the film. Other cast members include Tahir Raj Bhasin as Sunil Gavaskar, Ammy Virk as Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Sahil Khattar as Syed Kirmani and Jiiva as Krishnamachari Srikkanth.

Speaking about the movie, Ranveer had told Indian Express  last year, “It is an important part of our sports history and history as a nation, our first World Cup win put us on top of the world, stamped our presence on the map. India defeated West Indies, victors of the first two World Cups in the tournament by 43 runs to clinch the trophy.”

Adding that playing the role of Kapil Dev was a huge deal, he said, “I always wanted to be part of a film where the takeaway would be that sense of national pride. The story of underdogs’ triumph is completely lost. There is a whole generation that needs to know and I am happy to be fronting it.”

Kabir Khan, who last directed the Salman Khan-starrer Tubelight, had announced the movie in September 2017.
