Karan Johar has revealed that he tried to change director Aditya Chopra’s mind about casting actress Anushka Sharma in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Karan Johar said that he opposed the the idea of Anushka Sharma, a debutante then, being cast as the leading lady opposite Shah Rukh Khan.

“I asked Adi not to cast her. When he showed me her photographs, I was like, ‘Are you mad? What are you thinking?’ I would look at her and think what really did he see in her,” Johar said, in an interview. “On the first day of shoot, she was in a bridal costume walking in with Shah Rukh, and my mother was like she looks so lost. I was thinking to myself I’ll have to be nice to her now. Poor thing, she doesn’t know she won’t be left with a career out of this,” he added.

Karan, has directed Anushka along with Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Fawad Khan in his upcoming directorial, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

Anushka, who had then been unaware of the incident, commented, “I went back and told my mom he’s so nice.”

To this, Johar said, “Little did she know aboutthis devious, scheming mind. I was trying for another actress for that part.”

Karan Johar then said that he was conviced that she was the right choice after he watched the film. “I watched Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and she was good in it. But what really blew my mind was her performance in Band Baaja Baaraat.”

It must be noted that in an earlier TV show, Karan Johar also confessed that he was opposed to the idea of having Ranveer Singh in Band Baaja Baaraat.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, a romantic drama, is set to release on the 28th of November amidst protests against the film for featuring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan in the film.
