Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan is set to make her OTT debut with an upcoming Netflix film directed by Sujoy Ghosh. The announcement was made on Wednesday.
The actor is joining hands with the director for an untitled murder mystery, which will be an adaptation of the Japanese novel The Devotion of Suspect X by Keigo Higashino.
The film will also star Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma in pivotal roles.
Revealing her first digital outing, Kapoor said in a statement, “I can’t wait to begin work on this exciting project. It’s one that has all the right ingredients – a great story, a visionary director, and a super talented cast and crew. I am really looking forward to working with Sujoy, Jaideep, and Vijay. It’s the beginning of an electrifying journey and I can’t wait for audiences worldwide to see this global bestseller come to life.”
Talking about the film, Ghosh said, “Devotion is probably the best love story I’ve ever read, and to get a chance to adapt it into a film is such an honour. Plus, I get a chance to work with Kareena, Jaideep, and Vijay. What more can one ask for!”
The book is about Yasuko Hanaoka is a divorced, single mother who thinks she has finally escaped her abusive ex-husband Togashi. However, when he shows up one day to extort money from her, threatening both her and her teenage daughter Misato, the situation quickly escalates into violence and Togashi ends up dead on her apartment floor. What follows is a battle of wits between Yasuko and a police investigator.

The Devotion of Suspect X has previously been adapted to the screen multiple times in different languages.
Meanwhile, Kapoor is set to return to the big screen with the upcoming film Laal Singh Chaddha, alongside Aamir Khan. The film, helmed by Advait Chandan, is scheduled to release in theatres on August 11. Her last film, Good Newwz, was released in 2019.
