Dev, starring Karthi and Rakul Preet Singh will be trimmed following criticism that it was too long. According to a report in Cinema Express, the film makers have cut fifteen minutes from the film’s running time in an effort to make the second half tauter. The film had an original run time of two hours and thirty eight minutes.
Directed by newcomer Rajath Ravishankar, Dev is an action-adventure, romantic-thriller starring Karthi and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead. Produced by Prince Pictures, the music for Dev is by Harris Jayaraj. The film was released on last Friday, following Valentine’s Day. The film marks the second collaboration of Karthi and Rakul after the success of Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, directed by H Vinoth. Karthi played a police officer chasing a gang of bandits, while Rakul played his wife in the film.
Prakash Raj, Ramya Krishnan, RJ Vignesh, Amrutha and other actors play pivotal roles in Dev. Cinematography is by R Velraj, and editing is by Anthony L Ruben. The film was shot in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Himalayas and Ukraine.
Dev tells the story of a super-rich guy, who loves adventure and falls in love with a headstrong tech entrepreneur, who hates men because of a rough past (daddy issues, duh). Speaking about Dev, Karthi said, “This is a love story, but it isn’t about romance. It is a film that speaks about loving everything around you. Live the moment, love, and do what your heart says, is what Dev is all about.”
While director Rajath Ravishankar said that the idea of Dev came without much planning, “The inception of Dev happened over a casual chat and I never thought it would be my first project. I just wrote it without any plans as such.”
