DMK President Karunanidhi, who was hospitalised earlier today, has been discharged after a minor procedure. A press release issued this morning by Kauvery Hospital, Chennai read:

The politician’s feeding tube, which was given to him in December 2016 when he was admitted for breathing issues, was replaced at the hospital. The DMK Chief is currently recuperating at home.
Some discomfort is expected from the change, said a spokesperson. Karunanidhi had underwent tracheostomy late last year, and also Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastronomy – a procedure in which a feeding tube is put through the abdominal wall into the stomach.
A fiery orator, writer and politician, M Karunanidhi is an iconic and inseparable part of Tamil cinema. Up until a few years ago, he wrote dialogues and the script for Tamil films and television serials. Ill health prevented him from continuing to do so, a family spokesperson said.
