Kathukutti To Release On October 9

Journalist turned director Era Saravanan’s Kathukutti was scheduled to release on October 1 along with Puli, but following a two-week stay issued by the Madras High Court, the film will now release on October 9. Kathukutti hit a roadblock when one of the producers Anwar Kabir, filed a petition against another producer Ram Kumar, seeking repayment of Rs.1.30 crores from Ram Kumar.

After a hearing on Tuesday at the High Court before Judge Ravichandrababu, producer Ram Kumar paid Rs.58 lakhs as per the Court’s orders. Subsequently, the October 9 release date was officially confirmed by the Kathukutti team.

Keen to have gone head-to-head with Puli, director Era Saravanan said, “If the movie would have released as per our schedule, it would have done well. When I was shaken after receiving the stay order, political leader Vaiko and directors Ameer and Sasikumar stood by me. Many thanks to them. Now, with Puli having released a week ahead, Kathukutti might be screened in many theatres.” The film is set in Tanjore against the backdrop of the people’s successful agitation against the methane project in the Delta region. Kathukutti stars Narain, Soori and Srushti Dange.
