‘Kazhugu 2’ Gets ‘U’ Certificate; First Single Releases

Director Sathya Siva’s Kazhugu 2 has been cleared with a ‘U’ certificate. The first track from the film has released also today. Kazhagu 2 is a sequel of the 2012 film, and stars Krishna and Bindhu Madhavi in the lead.

Titled Sakalakalaa Vallithe single features the Bigg Boss star Yashika Anand. Krishna and Kaali Venkat dance with a group of old and young men at a bar. It’s a colourful folk number, similar to the bar song from Ambalaikkum Pombalaikkum Avasaram, in which Thambi Ramaiyah and Karunas dance with Krishna.

We’ve had a line of sequels since the beginning of 2018, with Vishwaroopam 2, Maari 2, Sandakozhi 2, Saami Square and 2.0. It seems like the trend will continue this year with Sasikumar’s Nadodigal 2, Vimal’s Kalavani 2, and Krishna’s Kazhugu 2. Reportedly, Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 will go on floors soon.

The original Kazhugu was a comedy thriller that released in 2012, and received praise for its film making and for the lead actors’ performances. It was a love story about a man who earned his living by recovering dead bodies of those who committed suicides. It was based on real-life incidents, and was shot in Kodaikanal, Theni, Munnar and other places.

The sequel is produced by Thirupur PA Ganesan under GK Studios. Music for the film is by Yuvan Shankar Raja, who had composed for the original. The songs in the original film were a huge success, so the team is expecting the Kazhagu 2 album to do well too.

Editor Praveen KL and cinematographer Sathya from the original, have been replaced by Gopikrishna and Raja Battacharjee respectively. Actor Kali Venkat is an addition to the cast for the sequel. He reportedly plays an important role.

Last seen as Kalai, Dhanush’s jigiri dost in Maari 2, Krishna is awaiting the release of the much delayed Grahanam. It’s a super natural crime thriller directed by Elan of Pyaar Prema Kaadhal fame. He also plays the lead actor in director Prabhu’s upcoming Thiru Kural. The film is expected to released sometime the year.
