Keerthy Suresh has been cast in Mahanati – a biopic on actress Savithri. The actress’ casting comes as a bit of surprise, especially since actress Nithya Menen was said to have already signed on for the role. A spokesperson for Keerthy said, “Yes, it is true. We will make an announcement once Keerthy is back. She is currently travelling.”
Director Nag Ashwin is said to have been swayed into casting Keerthy, due to her popularity in the Tamil and Telugu film industries. Since her debut with Vikram Prabhu’s Idhu Enna Mayam, Keerthy has steadily built her acting career with leading roles in films such as Rajini Murugan, Remo, Thodari, and Bairavaa .

The actress was recently cast for Nani’s Nenu Local as well as Pawan Kalyan’s 25th film. All these factors have made her a dependable star in both industries, which probably contributed to Ashwin’s decision.
The biopic, titled Mahanati, is a bilingual and based on yesteryear actress Savithri. Samantha Ruth Prabhu plays a major role in the project as well.
Meanwhile, Keerthy is busy filming Suriya’s Thaana Serntha Kootam. Her Bairavaa with Vijay is scheduled to release in January.
