Director Samuthirakani has revealed that his next film – Kitna – is based on a Tamil novel called Keethari. “We got permission from author Thamizhselvi before we began the project,” said Samuthirakani. In an interview to Ananda Vikatan the director has revealed that he read the novel six years ago while shooting Nadodigal. “Not every novel makes me cry. But when I read Keethari, I cried inconsolably. That was because of its premise and profound message.”
Keethari means shepherd and the film revolves around goatherds. Kitna features Dhansika and Samuthirakani in the lead. The movie will release as two versions, and the longer version will also be screened at Cannes Film Festival.
