KS Ravikumar Hints At Sequel to Panchathanthiram

KS Ravikumar has hinted at a sequel to his 2002 film Panchathanthiram. At a recent press meet, Ravikumar revealed that Actor Kamal Haasan, who played the male lead in the original film, had narrated the one line of the story to him. According to reports, the sequel will feature an all female cast and will deal with five women who want to get revenge on their partners. When this project does materialize, it will be an exciting new addition to the current trend of gender swap films like Akira, Ghostbusters and Ocean’s Ocho.

Panchathanthiram follows pilot Ram (Kamal Haasan), a womanizer who is reformed by marriage to Mythili (Simran), and the series of unfortunate events that make Mythili suspect her husband of adultery. Known for its witty one-liners and slapstick comedy, Panchathanthiram is often described as the film that brought Haasan back into the genre of comedy films. Crazy Mohan wrote the dialogues for the films, while Deva composed the music.

This is not the first time the idea of a Panchathanthiram sequel has been floated. Soon after the original film released in 2002, there were reports of a possible sequel. “When Kamal and I were shooting for Panchathanthiram, we wanted to make a sequel to it. We were discussing story ideas and had plans of shooting one major portion of it in a ship. But due to some reason, Panchathanthiram 2 didn’t work out,” KS Ravikumar said.

KS Ravikumar’s Mudinja Ivana Pudi with Kichcha Sudeepa, Nithya Menen released recently.
