As the story is set in a place surrounded by water, the makers exploit the visual scope of the place by stuffing the frames with the lush green of the palm trees. Like Soubin Shahir’s Parava, kids seem to have a major part to play as the trailer begins – they are shown playing chess. Soubin Shahir too plays a prominent role in Kumbalangi Nights.

Kumbalangi Nights is a story about four brothers played by Soubin Shahir, Sreenatha Bhasi, Shane Nigaam and Mathew Thomas. Fahadh Faasil plays the role of an outsider in this place.

The movie also features a romantic track between Sreenath Bhasi and a foreigner. The movie is written by Shyam Pushkaran who won the National Award for Best Original Screenplay for Maheshinte Prathikaram which starred Fahadh Faasil in the lead, with music by Bijibal. Talking about Kumbalangi Nights, Pushkaran said, “This is the first time I have tried to write a script based on a modern family drama. I am quite thrilled about it.”
