The teaser of Ladies and Gentlewomen, a documentary directed by Malini Jeevarathnam, is out. It explores the story of two lesbian lovers, Tija and Bija. It is reportedly based on the Tamil folktale of Pappathi and Karupaayi. The film is presented by Pa Ranjith.

In the trailer, two voices are heard – a man’s and a woman’s. It begins with the woman saying it’s the story of a king and a queen and the man immediately quips that it’s an old plot, told many times. Then she says, “Here’s another story. There lived a queen, and she looked at another queen.” The man responds, “It must be an English movie.” The woman then confirms that no, it’s a Tamil film.
Music is composed by Justin Prabhakaran and the film’s editor is Pravin Baskar. The film has received appreciation at the Norway Tamil Film Festival and the Pune International Queer Film Festival.
