Lakshmi Menon Plays A Dancer in ‘Yang Mang Sang’

Lakshmi Menon Bharatanatyam

Lakshmi Menon will play a Bharatanatyam dancer in the film, Yang Mang Sang. Silverscreen reported earlier that the actress had joined the cast, although Catherine Tresa was initially considered for the role. Lakshmi has formally learnt the dance form, and this played a part in her casting, said the film’s director Arjun

“Lakshmi Menon is a professional dancer, and has been learning Bharatanatyam, for several years. That’s why we decided to rope her in, and it was in fact easy for us to shoot with her. She plays a village girl, who belongs to the 1987 era. She has in fact lost some weight to fit into the character. It is just one of the characters that she plays in the film,” he said.

A comedy entertainer, Yang Mang Sang (also listed as Eng Mang Sang) has Prabhu Deva in the lead, who plays a Kung Fu coach. Arjun says that Lakshmi Menon’s look for the film was styled by Rasheed, who earlier worked with Tamannaah. “We wanted Lakshmi to look ethnic, traditional, at the same time, elegant. Rasheed styled her, and made sure that she look fabulous on screen,” he said.

Yang Mang Sang stars Prabhu Deva and Lakshmi Menon, with RJ Balaji, Thankar Bachan, Chithra Lakshman and others in supporting roles. Amrish is the music director, while Prabhu Deva is producing it.
