Lakshmy Ramakrishnan Requests Vijay Sethupathi To Change ‘Sindhubaadh’ Release Date

House Owner Movie Stills Featuring Lakshmy Ramakrishnan

Director Lakshmy Ramakrishnan has requested Vijay Sethupathi and the producers of Sindhubaadh to consider changing the release date of their film so it doesn’t clash with House Owner on June 28.

She recently tweeted that House Owner, written and directed by her, has been ready for release since May 10 but they had to postpone it to June 21 due to big budget films, and later to June 28 to avoid a clash with Sindhubaadh.

Yesterday, she once again tagged Vijay Sethupathi in a tweet and said that the delay in release of his film will affect House Owner, and said that producers, especially of big films, must announce release dates 15 days in advance so small budget filmmakers are not affected. “It is their duty to let us know in advance. Despite knowing that there’s a problem with release and the movie may not be out on the expected date, they went ahead with release announcements. When a Vijay Sethupathi film runs, who will give screens to us? There should be a fair chance to make sure all films are accessible and watched. Our good wishes are with them, but they should be considerate of smaller films too,” she told Silverscreen.

Lakshmy added that she is not planning to approach the Tamil Film Producers’ Council regarding this. “There’s no point to it when there’s already so much conflict in the council. People who have to work for the industry’s welfare have been fighting. There’s no one to regulate the system at this point,” she said.

Vijay Sethupathi has not responded to her request yet. The actor has said in interviews earlier (his last year’s release Seethakaathi also faced a similar delay) that he will not be able to intervene in financial and marketing decisions and issues related to release dates of his films. Lakshmy says, “He is a friend and well-wisher which is why I tweeted out to him. If he tells the producers of the film that they must consider my request, I believe things will change for the better.”

Sindhubaadh has been mired in legal issues and currently has a stay order from the Hyderabad High Court. The film was scheduled to release last month, but Arka Media Works, producers of Baahubali: The Conclusion, obtained a stay claiming that Sindhubaadh producers K Productions (who distributed Baahubali) had unsettled dues worth Rs 17.6 crores. The court posted the matter for June 24 and said Sindhubaadh cannot release until orders. But K Productions scheduled the release on June 21, which led Arka to release a press note saying this amounted to contempt of court. Sindhubaadh had to be removed from theatres in the last minute last week. While the producers have said it will now release on June 28, the film cannot be out until the High Court clears it.

Sindhubaadh directed by SU Arun Kumar stars Vijay Sethupathi, Anjali, Sethupathi’s son Suriya, Vivek Prasanna, Lingaa and others. House Owner stars Aadukalam Kishore, Sriranjani, Lovelyn Chandrasekhar and Pasanga Kishore in the lead.
