According to a Variety report, DiCaprio always wanted to play the prominent artist considering he was named after him because his pregnant mother was looking at one of da Vinci’s paintings at a museum in Italy when he first kicked.

DiCaprio will act and also produce the  film under his Appian Way banner alongside Paramount, which has acquired the rights to Walter Isaacson’s book on Leonardo da Vinci.

Born in 1452 and died in 1519, da Vinci is known for painting the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper.
