Trailer of Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal 2 starring Karthik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan in lead roles is out now. It is a ‘remake’ of sorts by the same director using the same tropes as his previous Love Aaj Kal starring Sara’s father, Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, with songs that were iconic.
In that film, it is Saif who is obsessed with his career before he hits a dead end, and comes to face the reality that he’s really in love with Deepika, and there’s an old track featuring another Saif and his lady love. Here too, there is one in the present, between a career-obsessed Sara and Karthik Aaryan and one in the past for Karthik.
While the beginning of the trailer feels a bit ‘been there done that’, some of the best moments in the trailer comes towards the end, where Aaryan is pummelling a cop for using a bad word, while using one himself, the reappearance of familiar songs, Aahun Aahun and Twist, and the final conversation between the duo, begging the question is there more to this film than meets the eye.
Sara asks Aaryan if he’s attracted to women, and he says, yes. He asks her if she’s not attracted to men, and she says, yes. If this indeed turns out to be the plot twist, we may be looking at another mainstream film like Ek ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga. Not sure if it will end up being a joke (considering the intimacy the two share) or just not important in the larger scheme of things.
