‘Lucifer’ First-Look Poster Out

Nearly two years after it being announced, Lucifer, starring Mohanlal, will start filming on July 18. Quickly following that announcement was the release of the first-look poster. Minimalistic in design, the poster reminds one of religious paintings of the past. In the foreground is a man, presumably Mohanlal, sitting in a carved wooden chair, ankle crossed at the knee — the fluid drapes of his white mundu reminiscent of Renaissance paintings. A path in what looks like the inside of a church forms the middle ground with an arched doorway flooded with white light forming the background. The tagline says “Blood, Brotherhood, Betrayal”. Words very often linked with the Devil, yes?

Lucifer is Prithviraj Sukumaran’s first film as director and it speaks to his position and lineage in the industry for having found the opportunity to direct a superstar such as Mohanlal. On his part, Mohanlal has been all praise for Prithviraj in a recent interview where he talks positively of Lucifer and the younger actor’s dedication to the project. Prithviraj’s week, however, hasn’t been a good one with critics and viewers, alike, panning his latest My Story.

Lucifer is written by the multi-faceted Murali Gopy (who, btw, is almost-Malayalam-cinema blue blood as the son of the late Bharath Gopi), known for films such as Left Right Left and Kammara Sambhavam. Mohanlal has had a busy year with him having wrapped up Odiyan and Drama this year, among other films.

In other news, CinemaPranthan reported that Anjali Menon’s next film with have Mohanlal in the lead and will be produced by Rejaputhran Ranjith. No other details have been announced yet but this is a great pairing: Menon, of Bangalore Days fame, is a sensitive filmmaker whose skill at her craft is undeniable and Mohanlal lends himself to a talented director like very few do.
