Madhan Karky’s Song For Rajinikanth’s Birthday Is About The ‘Rajini’ In Each Person

Lyricist Madhan Karky has written a song for Rajinikanth to commemorate his birthday. The Karky told Deccan Chronicle that it was “a gaana number…about celebrating the ‘Rajini’ in each one of us”.

He said, “For the special song, Bharath approached me with an idea of composing a song similar to the ’90s style. It was a great pitch and I decided to pen lyrics for a first-time composer. Super Singer fame Diwakar lent his voice to it. The song will be a gaana number, which is about celebrating the ‘Rajini’ in each one of us. The song is inspired by the music style of composer Deva. Sai and Diwakar spent a lot of time to perfect the song and it has come out very well.”

Karky said he first met Rajinikanth as a child, and had learned his songs and punchlines. He said, “I am a huge fan of him since my childhood. When I was a kid I remember meeting him at producer AVM Saravanan sir’s house. I used to sing his songs and belt out punch-lines from his films. I even gave an impromptu performance on one of his songs from Manithan at Meenakshi College in Chennai. When I started my career in the industry as a dialogue writer, he was the first person to mouth my lines. He’s been an integral part of my life.”

Today is Rajinikanth’s birthday, but celebrations have been muted. The actor had requested fans not to celebrate his birthday this year, most likely as a mark of respect for late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who passed away on 6 December.
